After taking my first photography class, there was no turning back. The next 10 years were spent honing my skills in the darkroom; shooting for a variety of clients; getting my MFA; and teaching photography at a men's prison.

Many years and assignments later, I'm perpetually curious and interested in people's lives, and the connection that occurs during a shoot is exciting. I strive to create a fun and authentic environment and to create images with a sophisticated yet relaxed attention to detail and a quiet intimacy with my subject.

In recent years my work has come to incorporate my concern for our food system and the future of our planet. My ongoing personal project is Grounded Women: Stories of Women who Farm (groundedwomen.com). It's important to me to help people understand where our food comes from and to share inspiring stories of women farming sustainably for the health of their families, land and communities.

In addition to my photography work, I host a year-round CSA delivery site, bringing farm-fresh organic food to my little corner of Virginia. If I'm not shooting for clients, you'll find me in the kitchen dealing with mounds of vegetables or out on a farm photographing a fast-moving, hard-working farmer.
